Everything you need to ask your doctor for a prescription, check your coverage and claim your SUGAR SILK compression socks through your benefits plan.
Step 1: Check your coverage
Call the number on your benefits card, or check your insurer's app, and ask:
- Are compression stockings or socks covered under my plan?
- What is the minimum compression level covered (in mmHg)?
- Who can prescribe them: a physician only, or also a nurse practitioner?
- How many pairs are covered per year, and what is the annual maximum?
- What percentage is reimbursed?
- Is pre-authorization required?
- Does the receipt need to show the compression level?
Write the answers down. If your plan only covers a higher compression level than 15–20 mmHg, a Health Spending Account (Canada) or FSA/HSA (US) may still cover your purchase.
Step 2: Ask your doctor
Bring the prescription request letter below to your appointment. Your doctor decides whether compression is right for you and at what level. SUGAR SILK does not provide medical advice.
Step 3: Order and keep your receipt
Order the compression level your prescription specifies. Your SUGAR SILK order confirmation is your receipt and lists the product, compression level and amount paid. Need an itemized receipt in a different format? Email info@sugar-silk.com with your order number.
Step 4: Submit your claim
- Open your insurer's app or claim form and choose medical supplies or compression garments.
- Upload your prescription and your SUGAR SILK receipt.
- Keep the originals. Many plans accept one prescription for 12 months of purchases.
